About Don Richard Voiles, 71 died at 11:53 pm on Friday, July 3, 2015, at St. Joseph (St. Vincent-Kokomo) Hospital.

He was born September 14, 1943, in Rushville, IN, to Gerald C. & Evelyn E. Voiles. Both parents are deceased.

On December 26, 1966, he married Diana M. Pavey at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Rushville, and she survives. He loved God and spending time with his family above all else. He enjoyed life with family and friends.

He graduated from Rushville High School in 1961. He then graduated from Hanover College in 1965 with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and Economics with a minor in Mathematics. He then received his Masters of Business Administration in Industrial Administration and Management in 1966, from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.

Don served as a Personnel Management Sergeant in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968. This includes a 15-month tour at Camp Red Cloud in Uijongbu, Korea where he received an Army Commendation Medal. He was employed by Chrysler Corporation from 1968 until his retirement in 2003. He started at the Indianapolis Foundry and then transferred to the Kokomo Casting and Transmission Plants in 1974. He worked in Human Resources and completed and instructed various training and education programs, along with his other duties.

Don was an active member of St. Joan of Arc Church where he served on the Parish Council, as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, as the scoutmaster and collection counter. He served as a tutor at Sts. Joan of Arc & Patrick School and assisted with the Accelerated Reading Program and served on the Curriculum Committee. He was also active with the Serra Club Ministry and was president of the Sunshine Club at St. Joan of Arc. Don enjoyed playing softball with teams sponsored by St. Joan of Arc, Wabash Alloys and UAW 1302. He coached basketball, football and t-ball at the YMCA, and youth baseball at both Northside Bambino and Northwestern Babe Ruth. He always enjoyed youth, high school and college sports and was a NASCAR fan. Don also served on the Mayor’s Substance Abuse Council, Howard County Turn Around Council, Indiana Workforce Development Metalworking Program Proficiency Panel, Junior Achievement and worked with the VISION Teacher Enhancement Program at IUK, and fundraiser for the United Way. He was a member of the American Legion.

The love of his life was his wife, children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, and has three sons, Brian (Lesley) Voiles of Lafayette, Michael (Janci) Voiles of Kokomo, David Voiles of San Francisco and a daughter Karen Causey of Austell, GA. Don has five grandchildren, Aubrie Voiles, Krysta Wininger, Braydon Voiles, Darian Voiles, and Mason Voiles. Don is survived by a brother, William Voiles of Indianapolis.

His sister Janet Voiles and brother Philip Voiles preceded him in death.

Thank you to the many Hospital staffs who took such wonderful care of him - St. Joseph Hospital, the Heart Hospital, St. Vincent’s Hospital and Seton Hospital in Lafayette. A special thanks to Drs. Ronald Maus, Jeffrey Groothuis, John Schutzman, John Koscica (& the Fresenius Medical Care group), David Cheesman and their staffs. Don’s therapists and nurses were very professional, but treated him with extreme kindness and constant encouragement.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 9, 2015 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 3155 South 200 West, Kokomo, with Rev. Fr. Matthew Arbuckle the celebrant. Military Honors will be provided by the U.S. Army and the Kokomo V.F.W. Military Rites Team. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 West Lincoln Road, Kokomo, where a scripture service will be offered at 7:30 p.m. The family will also receive friends one hour prior to the Mass at the church on Thursday.

Burial will follow a committal service to be held at 4:00 p.m. Thursday in Calvary Cemetery in Rushville, IN.
