About | Donald Bert Garretson, age 76, formerly of Rushville, IN, passed away at his home with his loving wife Jeanette at his side, on August 28, 2011. Donald was born January 16, 1935 and was the son of Donald DeHart and Marjorie Mattox Garretson. He was baptized in the Main Street Christian Church in Rushville, IN. He was a 1952 graduate of Rushville High School where he was on the football, basketball and baseball teams. Don sang in choir and attended William Jewel College and Ball State Teachers College, where he played football. He served his county in the US Army during the Korean War. Don and his family moved cross-country from California to Jackson, NJ to Red Bank, NJ before settling in Toms River, NJ in 1979. He was employed as a Sales Representative for MacWarehouse in Lakewood, NJ retiring in 1987. Don was an avid bowler, winning many tournaments and trophies but passing on a career as a Professional Bowler choosing his family first, as he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle. He was predeceased by his parents; Donald DeHart and Marjorie Mattox Garretson. Surviving beside his wife Jeanette F. (Hafner) Garretson of 44 years, living in Toms River, NJ are children: A. Benton Edmons, II and his wife Sheila of Kansas; Donald R. Garretson and his companion “Gus” of Freehold, Jean B. Boyle of Bayville, Kristi Van Bramer and her husband Kenneth of Browns Mills, Daughter-in-law Dolores Edmons of Toms River, adopted daughter Lisa Sedath and her husband Ron of Toms river, brothers: James Dehart Garretson of Carmel, IN and Richard Mattox Garretson and his wife Martha of Crown Point, IN. Also surviving are thirteen grandchildren: Peter, Jason, Melissa, Jeffrey, Emily, Sara, Erin, Billy Andrew, David, Kevin, Shawn and Matthew, one great grandchild Milee, his nephew Christopher and his niece Bethany. Visitation will e Wednesday, August 31st from 3:00 – 7:00 PM with a Funeral Service beginning at 7:00 PM at “The family Owned” Carmona-Bolen Home for Funerals, 412 Main Street, Toms River, NJ 08753. Cremation is private by family.
