About | Duane M. Eakins, 80, a life long Rushville resident, passed away June 12, 2015 in Rush Memorial Hospital. Born December 29, 1934 in Rushville to the late Walter M. & Gladys B. (Casey) Eakins. Duane graduated from Rushville High School in 1952. He served in the US Army at Ft. Leonardwood, MO and then served in the US Army Reserves in Rushville. He married Marilyn Jo Gray of Carthage on November 18, 1962 and she survives. Duane worked at Detroit Diesel Allisons in Speedway several years until he retired in 1997. He loved spending time with his grandsons & great grandsons. Duane was a member of the Walnut Ridge Friends Church just West of Carthage where he had served as Sunday School Superintendant and teacher. Duane was also a member of the Knightstown W.C.T.U. In addition to his wife, Jo, of Rushville, Duane is also survived by his daughters, Theresa Richert & husband Roger of Losantville, Sharon Smalley & husband Tim of Selma, Maryjo Messer & Vanesia Eakins both of Rushville, a sister, Regina Evans & husband Bill of Rushville, a brother, Thomas Eakins of Ellettsville, grandsons, Brandon Shelton & wife Bonnie of Losantville, Brad & Chris Hoover both of Selma, Coy Estes of Greenfield, Jordan Robey of NY & Nickolas Robey of Greenwood and great grandsons, Brock & Brody Shelton of Losantville. Services will be held Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at 2 PM at the Walnut Ridge Friends Church West of Carthage. Friends are welcome to visit at the church from 11 AM until time of service that day. Burial will be in the Walnut Ridge Friends Cemetery. Garnald Dennis will preside.
