| About | Edward L. "Eddie" Newkirk, 89, of Rushville left us to join his Lord and Gladys, his wife of 61 years on June 18, 2014. Eddie was born September 19, 1925, in Rushville to the late Charles and Edith (Long) Newkirk. Eddie was a 1943 graduate of Rushville High School and volunteered for the US Army the following January and served in the United States and throughout Europe in World War II. After exiting the service, Eddie married Gladys Posey of Clarksville, TN. She would preceded him in death in February of 2008. Eddie worked as a switchman for GTE and retired after 37 years. Eddie and Gladys were avid travelers, especially by train, taking as many photos as they could. Eddie was a regular attendee at Main Street Christian Church in Rushville and a member of the American Legion Post 77 out of Brookville, IN. Eddie is survived by two nephews and three nieces. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Todd Funeral Centre and Crematory with full military honors presented. Burial will follow at East Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-8 Sunday at Todd Funeral Centre and Crematory.
