About | F. William "Bill" Gray, 85, a long time Rushville resident, passed away May 11, 2014 in Indianapolis. He was born May 28, 1928 in Columbus, IN. to Guy A. & Mary F. (Lannum) Gray. Bill was a 1947 Columbus High School graduate. He attended Wabash College and recieved his Bachelor's in Education in 1952 from Indiana University, joined the US Army & served honorably from 1952-1955 & then recieved his Master's in Education from Indiana University in 1956. He married Jonquil "Jonnie" A. Kinsey on February 2, 1952 and she preceded him in death on April 24, 1962. He married Linda Fordice on August 1, 1964 and she survives. Bill was an educator, coach & mentor his entire life. He began teaching & coaching in 1955 in Danville and came to Rushville in 1960. He taught sociology, geography, government, driver's ed and summer physical education classes. While in Danville he coached basketball, football & baseball and in Rushville he coached football, track & both girls & boys golf. He retired in 1994. He was an announcer for many years covering girl's basketball & football. Bill was a member of the First Presbyterian Church since 1960 where he had been both an Elder & Deacon, he was active in both Rushville Rotary Club and the Optimist Club, he was the summer activities director of the Rushville parks for many years, a life member of the Rushville Elk's Lodge #1307 & the Rushville American Legion Post #150 and he was an IHSAA Official for football, basketball & track and began the Officials Club at Rushville High School in order to mentor to young people interested in officiating. Bill is survived by his wife, Linda, of Rushville, sons, Steve "Buck" Gray of Logansport, Mike & wife Susan Gray of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, daughters, Karyn & husband Robby Winkler of Fishers, IN, Cathy Gosser of Rushville, grandchildren, Aaron Coon, George Thomas & wife Lindsay Thompson, Gary Thompson, Satchel, Kinsey, Courtney & Bradley Gray and great grandchildren, Nova, Amelia, Adeylyn & Abel. Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Jonnie, his parents, a daughter-in-law, Karrie Ellen Miller Gary, 5 sisters, 2 brothers & great granddaughter, Tobi Lynn Coon. Services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Rushville at 11 AM Thursday, May 15, 2014. Friends are welcome to visit at Moster Mortuary on Wednesday, May 14 from 2-8PM. Rev. Dena Vittorio will preside. The Rush County Veteran's Honor Guard will provide military rites. Cremation will follow services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rush Memorial Hospital Oncology Department or Brian's Cause thru the Rush County Community Foundation or the Rushville Public Library. |
