About | Former Rush Circuit Court Judge G. Richard Pile, 67, Bloomington, died Sunday while on vacation in Brownsville, Texas. Born Aug. 21, 1931, in Iowa City, Iowa, he was the son of Dennis Richard and Helen M. (Mosier) Pile. He married Sandra K. (Jones) Pile on Aug. 16, 1987, and she survives. He graduated from Rushville High School in 1949. He earned his bachelor's degree from Indiana University in 1953, and his law degree from the Indiana University School of Law in 1955. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1955 to 1957. He was a member of the law firm of Smith & Yarling, Indianapolis, from 1957 to 1963; worked in the legal section of the State Automobile Insurance Association from 1963 to 1966; and was in private practice and a member of the Indiana Industrial Board from 1966 to 1969. In 1969, he was chairman of the Indiana Industrial Board. Mr. Pile was appointed judge of Rush Circuit Court in 1969 and was elected for three six-year terms. He was a member of the Indiana Judges Association, judge's retirement board and Rush County Bar Association, where he served as president. He was a board member of the Mental Health Association of Indiana from 1975 to 1978; Dunn Mental Health Center Inc., from 1977 to 1980; Mental Health Association of Rush County; and the Governor's Committee for Study of Mental Health Laws. He was also a former member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Rushville; the American Legion; and Elks Lodge No. 1307. Survivors also include one son, David Pile, Chesterfield, Mo.; two daughters, Beverly Schreiber, South Bend, and Marjorie Hover, Des Moines, Iowa; one stepson, Richard Smith, Cincinnati; two stepdaughters, Karla Ralston and Amanda Mohr, both of Rushville; one sister, Donna Fancher (Class of 1953), Indianapolis; four grandchildren; and three stepgrandchildren. Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the Todd Funeral Home, Rushville. The Rush County Bar Association will conduct a memorial service at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Rush Circuit Court. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Shelbyville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rush County Community Foundation. |
