About | Rushville Consolidated High School teacher, basketball coach and Assistant Principal. B.S., M.S. Indiana University, Physical Science Teacher, Assistant Principal. Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame Inductee - 1984 A National Champ, Then a Winning Coach HIGH SCHOOL: Vevay (1937) COLLEGE: Indiana University (1941) A 4-year starter at Vevay High School, graduating in 1937, he was also a track standout, twice reaching the state meet as a pole-vaulter. A 3-year letter winner at Indiana University he was a top backcourt substitute for the 1940 national championship team and a starter and team leader as a senior in 1941. He began a long and distinguished coaching career at Aurora High School, where his 1943 team made it to Sweet 16. He then coached for 8 years at Rushville where he won 60% of his games with 5 sectionals and 2 regional championships. He was highly respected as a gentleman coach who never drew a technical foul, yet was a fierce competitor. Jim served on the IHSAA Board and was Rushville’s athletic director for 25 years. Mr. Gridley died in July 1981. |
