About James P. Porter, 54, of Falmouth, passed away Friday, July 2, 2010 at the emergency room at Fayette Regional Health System. Apparently in good health, his death was unexpected.

He was born April 8, 1956 in New Castle, IN, one of eight children of Robert A. and Della Ann Stubbs Porter.

He attended Rushville area schools and graduated from Rushville High School in 1974. He joined the U.S. Navy and had served with the SeeBees in Asia and Europe from 1974 until his discharge in 1984. On May 9, 1992, he was married in Glenwood to Vickie Humphrey. Mrs. Porter survives. James had been employed in construction and was currently working at Really Cool Foods in Cambridge City. He was a member of Fairview Christian Church where he served as a deacon.

Survivors besides his wife include his parents, Robert A. and Della Ann Porter of Glenwood; two step children: Amee Willhite and husband, Travis, of Milton and Andrew Adkins and wife, Brittany, of Greensburg; four beloved grandsons: Hunter Willhite, and Evan, Seth and Quentin Adkins; seven brothers and sisters: Billy Porter and wife, Carla, of Rushville; Roberta Kellam of Rushville, John Porter of Glenwood, Becky Gilbert of Jefferson, Georgia, Greg Porter and wife, Renee`, of Connersville, Jeff Porter and wife, Julie, of Beattyville, KY, and Reine Wolford of Glenwood; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Funeral services will be conducted by George Huff and Jeff Porter at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 6, 2010 in Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home, where friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Fairview Christian Church.
