About | James Sparks Foster 80, passed away at his home in Rushville Tuesday, April 3, 2007. He was born March 12, 1927 in Wilkinsburg, PA to Horace and Dorothy Sparks Foster. He married Ruth Ann Miller on August 18, 1951, and she survives. Other survivors include, one brother, Robert wife Sharlene Foster of Rushville, two sons and one daughter and their families, William and Marty Foster and daughter Elizabeth of Greenfield, IN, James and Holly Foster and their son Michael and daughter Alicia of Bloomington, IN, and Ann Foster Hughes and her son Lane, also of Bloomington, IN. He was the grandson of the Honorable Judge Will M. and Della Young Sparks of Rush County both deceased. He was a 1945 graduate of Rushville High School; Indiana University 1950 and Indiana University School of Law 1952. He was a WW II veteran serving in the US Army from 1945-1947. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church of Rushville, the American Bar Association, the Indiana Bar Association, Beta Theta Pi Fraternity at Indiana University, Indiana University Alumni Association, the Rush County Community Foundation Board, the Rush County Historical Society, the Mental Health Association, the ACLU, the NAACP, the BPOE #1307 of Rushville, American Legion Post 150 of Rushville, the Rushville VFW post, and was active in the Rush Co. Humane Society. He was a partner in the Law firm Earnest, Foster, Eder and Levi and practiced law in Rushville his entire professional career. He served as Rush County Prosecutor from 1952-1956, and then practiced general civil and criminal law in Rush and surrounding counties until his retirement in 1996. Throughout his life he was an avid amateur naturalist and conservationist who enjoyed and passed on his love of the outdoors to his family. He supported many environmental organizations, enjoyed fishing, sailing and bird watching both in the wild and at his backyard feeders. He was a quiet champion of the underdog. He was a loving husband and father and a generous member of the community he loved and was proud to call his home. He will be missed. |
