About | Jeanette "Jeanie" M. (Smith) Alsman, 51, a lifelong Rush County resident went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 10, 2011 after fighting a long & courageous battle with cancer. Jeanie was born December 20, 1959 in Rushville, IN to James McQueen and Dorothy Smith Ryckman. She married Michael Douglas Alsman (Class of 1974) on November 20, 1982 and he survives. She was a 1978 graduate of Rushville Consolidated High School. She worked for several years at IPC in Morristown and then took several years off work to raise her two children. Jeanie returned to work at Fujitsu Ten in Rushville and worked most recently at Wal-Mart in Rushville for the last eight years. She was a member and very active in the Fairview Christian Church . Besides being a Soccer-Mom in every sense of the word, her most important concerns were her church, family and friends. After contracting cancer she became very active with the American Cancer Society and the local Relay for Life programs. Jeanie was an avid gardener; creating environments for the birds and butterflies, always trying to attract as many species as possible to the yard around the house. In addition to her husband, Michael of Falmouth, IN, Jeanie leaves behind one son, Aaron C. Alsman of Falmouth and a daughter Jessica N. Alsman of Indianapolis, IN, one brother, David McQueen of Indianapolis, IN and her sister, Karen Ryckman. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her mother and step-father, Jack Ryckman. George Huff will preside.
