About | John Charles Webb, 69, of Rushville, died Monday, November 9, 2015. John was born February 22, 1946, the third of four children of Carl Earnest Webb and Sarah Ruth (Curry) Webb, in Rush County, IN. A 1964 graduate of Mays High School, John continued his education at Ball State University, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1967 and a Master of Arts in 1971. He taught one year in Monticello, IN, and one year in Knightstown, IN, before settling in for 31 years at Rushville Consolidated High School. In addition to teaching all levels of mathematics, including the first A.P. Calculus classes, John served as Chairman of the Math Department, Junior Class sponsor, Chess Club organizer and sponsor, volunteer judge at Speech meets, and mentor of student teachers. John was also a strong advocate of teachers’ rights and served as president of the local teachers’ organization, as well as head of the negotiations committee for teacher benefits. After retiring from teaching in May 2000, John was employed by the Indiana Federation of Teachers as a state staff representative. His job included traveling from border to border in Indiana to assist teachers’ locals in contract negotiations, arbitrations, and mediations. He retired from IFT in June, 2013. John was also active in the community, serving on the Board of Directors of Ivy Tech East, was both treasurer and the Director of the Rush County United Fund, was a member of both Center Christian Church and Main Street Christian Church, and was a long time member of the Elks and served as an officer as well. On January 20, 1978, John married Rebecca Sue Suttle, also a mathematics teacher. In addition to his wife Becky, John is survived by his son, Clinton Benjamin Webb of Rushville, granddaughter Bayleigh Ann Webb, and grandson Benjamin Charles Webb, both of Rushville, his daughter Andrea Claire Webb and fiancé Brad Kuhn of Valencia, CA, grandsons Ryan Adam Davidson and Kyle Jeffrey Davidson, both of Valencia, CA. John is also survived by his brother, Philip E. Webb of Danville, VT, sister Joan E. Fudge and husband Bill of Rushville, and brother Timothy L. Webb and wife Barb of Rush County. Also to remember John are his 12 nieces and nephews, 12 great nieces and great nephews, and many other family and friends. John loved to spend time watching movies, doing yard work, reading history books, and working Sudoku puzzles, but he especially loved spending time with family playing all kinds of games. Family and friends are invited to remember John and share their stories of John at the Rushville Elks Club located at 223 East Third Street in Rushville, from 2-5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2015.
