About | RUSHVILLE - John Lowell Carter, 63, died Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011 in Marion General Hospital. He was born Jan. 6, 1948 in Rushville to Robert Lowell and Betty Rosalyn (Poston) Carter. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines and served in Vietnam. John married Carra L. Driver Feb. 20, 1972; she survives. He retired from First Option of Marion. John formerly worked at Ball-Foster of Marion for 22 years, Dukes of Anderson, and United Cartage of Gas City. He enjoyed cooking, gardening, video games and computer games. He also enjoyed music and was the co-founder of a rock band in Rushville, The Tribu-Terrys, which recently held a reunion in Rushville. John was an avid NASCAR and Indianapolis Colts fan and had formerly coached in the 3-Way Rec. League. Survivors include his wife, Carra L. Carter, Gas City; son, Jeremy (Belinda) Carter, Gas City; daughter, Michelle (Brian) Blanton, Phenix City, Ala.; son, Jason (Brandee) Carter, Marion; parents, Robert and Betty Carter, Rushville; grandchildren, Slade and Seth Carter, Ashley and Cody Blanton, Emilee Carter, and Madison Jones; mother-in-law, Gaynell Van Driver, Muncie; and brother-in-law, John C. Driver, Muncie. He was preceded in death by his brother, James Carter; sister, Susan Beth Carter; and father-in-law, John C. Driver. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2011 at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City. Funeral service will be at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2011 at the funeral home with Rev. James McDowell officiating. Burial will be in Marion National Cemetery. The Rushville Republican Wed.
