| About | John T. Ketchum, 85, a life long Rushville resident, passed away on Sunday, December 30 in Greensburg. He was born on January 8, 1927 in Rushville to Wooden Curtis & Stella (Snider Perry) Ketchum. He married Evelyn Nixon on November 16, 1952 and she preceded him in death on October 20, 2010. John was drafted into the US Army during WW2. He served in Japan with Company B 184th Infantry. After returning to Rushville after service, John graduated from Rushville High School in 1948. He had quite a work ethic, never missing one days work because of sickness. John delivered newspapers in Rushville as a boy, acquired top salesman status selling US War Bonds and for 30 years he delivered milk for Barnett's Hoosier Dairy on a residental milk route in Rushville. He later worked at Dana Corporation in Rushville & Indiana Gear Works in Indianapolis. He was a parts runner for Rodefeld's Napa before he finally retired. John was a deacon at First Baptist Church in Rushville where he had been a member for over 40 years. He was a member of the Rushville American Legion Post #150. He took great pride in never getting any kind of traffic sitation or having any kind of run in with the law! John had a very gentle nature & was very much a people person. He is survived by his sons, John W. & wife Ricki Ketchum of Shelbyville, Kenny & wife Vanessa Ketchum of Rushville and Steve Ketchum & companion Amanda of Rushville, his daughters, Rhonda & husband Allen Cohee of Rushville and Faith & husband Randy Sizemore of Connersville, 19 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, John was preceded in death by brothers, Infant baby Jim, Ben, Loren, Bill, Bob & Charles and sisters, Louise & Edna and half sister, Leota McIllwain. Services will be held at 10 AM Thursday, January 3 at the First Baptist Church in Rushville where friends are welcome to visit on Wednesday, January 2, from 4-8PM. Rev. Phillip Hodgkins will preside and burial will be in Rushville's East Hill Cemetery. The Rush County Veteran's Honor Guard will provide military rites. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Research. Moster Mortuary, Rushville, entrusted with arrangements. |
