About John was born November 8, 1940 in Rushville, Rush County, Indiana to John Wendell and Jean Frances (Wainwright) Kirkpatrick. He passed away March 10, 2012 in Reno, Nevada.

John graduated from Rushville High School in 1958. He started work on the family farm in Rush County, Indiana before serving in the US Air Force from 1959 to 1963, then continued his education with an agricultural short course at Purdue University in 1964.

He married Beverly Sue Chance and moved to Corvallis, Oregon where he worked three years as a farm equipment mechanic. He worked for New Holland farm equipment manufacturer in various jobs from 1969 to 1991, when he qualified for early retirement. During those years, John also taught sessions on mechanics, salesmanship and business management. He and his family lived in Oregon and Washington before moving to Reno, Nevada in 1980. From 1994 to 1999 he worked at most of the jobs at The Nevada Rancher newspaper.

John is survived by his wife of 47 years, Beverly (Chance) Kirkpatrick; son Jay Wendell (Kate); grandsons James William and Aaron Michael, all of Reno; brother William O. (Becky) of Brownsburg, IN; sister-in-law Avonelle (Jack) Dare of Sarasota, FL; brother-in-law Monte (Mary Beth) Chance of Frankfort, KY; and numerous nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents, his son Michael Alan, and sister Carol Ann Warner.

He was a loving, caring and wonderful husband, father, grandfather and brother. His great sense of humor and ability to see the big picture will be missed.

A time of visiting will take place on Saturday, March 17 from 10:30AM - 12:30 PM at Moster Mortuary in Rushville, followed by a procession and graveside service at Center Cemetery in Mays. Bill Worrell will preside.
