About | Joseph Harlen Smith age 71, of Spiceland, IN passed away April 19th at his residence with family at his side. Joseph was born in Rushville, February 24, 1941, the son of the late William & Mildred (Gallimore) Smith. He married Helen L. Dishong in 1960 and she survives. He was a 1959 graduate of Rushville High School and owned and operated Smith's Wrecker Service in Spiceland for many years. Most recently he was a Truck Driver for FTC Transportation (Feed The Children). Joseph is survived by Helen of Spiceland; two daughters, Diana (Eric) Swim, of Straughn, IN; Jennifer M. Smith, of Rushville; one son, Joseph H. Smith, Jr, of Newport, NC; a grandson whom he raised CJ Smith of Spiceland; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by one brother Donnie Smith and sister Imogene Howell. Graveside Services will be held 11AM Saturday April 21, 2012 at Rushville's East Hill Cemetery (Section 17). Pastor Glen Ray will officiate. The family will receive friends at 10AM at the cemetery.
