About Lawrence E. Porter, 92, of Rush County, died Aug. 19, 2009.

Born June 27, 1917 in Sexton, he was the son of Orville and Hazel (Kiser) Porter, both deceased. He married Margie L. Bundy Dec. 11, 1948; she preceded him in death Nov. 2, 1994.

Mr. Porter was one of the founding fathers of the Pioneer Engineers Club of Indiana and the Whitewater Valley Rail Road, past president of the Rush County Historical Society, vice-precinct committeeman for several years for the Republican Party, member of the Jackson Township Volunteer Fire Department, 4-H Leader, past president of the Hoosier Cruiser Motorcycle Club, and an avid geneologist. He was a lifelong Rush County resident and Rush County farmer. The Porter farm in Jackson Township has been in the family since 1831. He had operated a sawmill on the farm since 1947. He also was a member of the Hannegan Christian Church and a 1935 graduate of Rushville High School.

Survivors include sons, Stephen Porter of Connecticut, Tracy (Lydia) Porter and Jon Porter, both of Rushville; daughter, Martyne (Craig) Bailey of New Castle; special friend, Lillian Kehl of Connersville; brother, Mark (Betty) Porter of Rockford, Ill.; sister, Helen (Harry) Andrewsen of California; eight grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents and wife he was preceded in death a sister, Florence (Howard) Linville.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Moster Mortuary in Rushville with Pastor Warren Engel officiating. Visitation will be held after 2 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Rush County Historical Society or the Pioneer Engineers Club of Indiana.
