About | Lawrence W. "Bud" Southerland, 89, a life long Rush County resident, passed away at his home in Rushville on Friday, February 17, 2012. He was born on April 18, 1922 in North Vernon, IN to Lester & Wilma (Ritchie) Southerland. He married Barbara Chandler on September 29, 1943 and she survives. Bud was a graduate of Rushville High School in the class of 1939. He was a WW2 US Navy veteran. Bud was chief of police for the city of Rushville for 2 years before going to work in security for General Motors in Indianapolis, retiring in 1980. He worked at Hubler Motors several years where he was logistics transportation manager. Bud was the last living member or the Rushville FOP. He loved John Wayne westerns, was passionate about cars and enjoyed hitting the open road in his grandson Scott's tractor trailor. In addition to his wife Barbara, of Rushville, Bud is survived by his daughter, JoEllen Southerland of Wheeling, IL, a brother, James & wife Sylvia Southerland of San Diego, CA, sisters, Isabel Southerland of Bloomington, Alberta & husband Robert Miller of Indianapolis and Juanita Shields of Albuquerque, NM, grandchildren, Scott & wife Ann Southerland, Blake Alan & wife Kylee Southerland and Blake's sisters, Erin & Brooke, several great grand and great-great grandchildren also survive. Bud was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Larry Alan. Services will be held at 10 AM Wednesday, February 22 at Moster Mortuary, Rushville with Rev. Jay Noll presiding. Friends are welcome to visit at the mortuary from 5 unitl 8 PM Tuesday. Burial will be in Rushville's East Hill Cemetery at a later date. Military rites will be given by the Rush County Veterans Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of South Central Indiana. |
