About Leona L. M. (Krinop) Michel, 102, a Rush County resident since 1945, passed away Monday, Aug. 22, 2011 in Rushville.

Leona was born May 15, 1909 in Osgood to Henry F. and Henrietta (Sembach) Krinop. She married Harold H. Michel May 11, 1935; he preceded her in death April 16, 1990.

She was a 60+ year member of St. Paul United Methodist Church where she had taught Sunday School for many years. She was a member of the Martha Poe Chapter of the OES, Kappa Kappa Sigma Sorority and the Rush County State and National Retired Teachers Associations where she was a charter member.

Leona retired from teaching in 1970 after more than 27 years as an educator. She was a teacher at a one room school in Fowl, which was the first school in Ripley County. She also taught in Versailles, Osgood and New Salem and at all the city schools in Rushville, teaching grades 1 and 3.

She graduated from Osgood High School in 1927. She was a Madame Blakers and Butler University graduate in 1931. Ê

She leaves behind sons, Carl Michel (and wife, Sondi) of Greenwood, S.C., Delbert Michel (and wife, Sally) of Suttons Bay, Mich., Keith Michel of Rushville; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Leona was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Krinop in Nov., 1999; a sister, Hilda Black in January, 1999; and a granddaughter, Cynthia, in 1991.

Services for Mrs. Michel will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 25 at Moster Mortuary, Rushville with Pastor Jan Dimick presiding. Friends are welcome to visit from 9:30 a.m. to time of services Thursday at the mortuary. Graveside burial will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Mud Pike Cemetery in Ripley County.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Paul United Methodist church.
