About Lester Gene Miller, 90, a long time Rush County resident passed away Friday, May 25, 2012 in Rushville, IN. Gene was born on May 11, 1922 in Fort Ritner, IN to the late Irvin G. and Mabel (Russell) Miller.

Gene was a 1941 graduate of Rushville High School and later attended Hanover College. He married Barbara Hyatt on August 3, 1946 and she survives.

Gene was a Tech Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps during WWII from 1942 until 1945 serving in the Pacific at Okinawa, Japan. He was a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Rush County for 31 years retiring in 1979 and worked part time for Moster Mortuary for 5 years. He was a member and former Deacon of Main Street Christian Church of Rushville and a lifetime member of Phoenix Lodge # 62 F&AM, the VFW and American Legion all of Rushville. He was also a member of Phi Gamma Delta of Hanover, IN.

In addition to his wife Barbara of Rushville, Gene leaves behind 3 sons, Michael wife Jane Miller of Howell, NJ, James wife Allyson Miller of Dublin, OH and Wayne wife Maryann Miller of Biloxi MS, daughter Shirley husband Paul Natemeier of North Ridgeville, OH, 2 sisters Estella M. Copple , and Lillian Kehl of both of Connersville, IN. 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Gene was preceded in death by 2 brothers in addition to his parents.

Services will be held at Moster Mortuary, Rushville, Thursday May 31 at 1 PM with Pastors Sam Davenport and Mick Saunders presiding. Friends may visit Wednesday May 30 from 4 to 8 PM at the Mortuary. A Masonic Service will be performed at the mortuary Wednesday evening.

Entombment will follow the funeral service at East Hill Shrine Mausoleum in Rushville.

Military rites will be observed at the mausoleum. Memorial contributions may be made to Main Street Christian Church or donor's choice.
