| About | Louis Francis Heeb of Charlestown, R.I., and a former longtime resident of Ridgefield, Conn., died unexpectedly Dec. 4, 2010. He was born March 25, 1930 in Rushville, Ind., the youngest of nine children to Von and Lulu (Pulliam) Heeb. Mr. Heeb is survived by his wife and best friend of 51 years, Mary (Boylan) Heeb; his daughter, Delana Lustberge (and her husband, David) of Weston, Conn.; his son, Karl Von (and his wife, Pamela) of Palm City, Fla.; and one older brother, Robert Heeb (and his wife, Roselian (Cranford)) Heeb of Columbus and formerly of Rushville. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Newell, Helen, Elizabeth, John, Esther, Harold and an infant sister. His grandchildren, Madelyn and Natalye Lustberge, Nicholas, Katelyn, and Lindsey Heeb brought great joy to him, and he was the uncle to several nieces and nephews. Mr. Heeb graduated from Rushville High School in 1948. He participated in band and he was active in sports, being a member of the 1948 basketball team that went to the Indiana State Basketball Tourney. Mr. Heeb went on to graduate from General Motors Institute, Flint, Mich. in 1955 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He served in the Army Corps of Engineers at Picatinny Arsenal in Dover, N.J. developing munitions from 1955 to 1957. He also participated in the ROTC program. He and his wife, Mary, were married in 1959 but Mr. Heeb continued his studies. In 1961 Mr. Heeb was awarded a Doctorate of Law from The George Washington University, Washington DC, and he was a Registered Patent Attorney. He started his legal career at the United States Patent Office in Washington DC, later joining American Can Company as corporate counsel. After American Can Company was bought by James River Corporation, Mr. Heeb served as the vice president counsel at the Norwalk, Conn. office until his retirement in 1992. Reading was Mr. Heeb's avocation, developing a particular expertise on Lincoln and the Civil War Era. Mr. Heeb is also credited by his family for writing a memoir of his mother spanning from 1889 through the early 1970s. His humble beginnings gave him an appreciation for life, family, hard work and a continual search for knowledge. A Celebration of His Life Memorial Service will be held in Mr. Heeb's honor Friday, July 8, 2011 at Rushville Church of Christ with Jerry Holdman officiating. Calling will be from 11 a.m. to noon at the church with the memorial service to begin at noon. Burial is to follow in East Hill Cemetery of Rushville immediately following the service. |
