About | Rushville Republican - June 3, 1991 Former state veterinarian Dr. Lowell W. Hinchman, 73, 107 State Street, Glenwood, died at 5:30 p.m. Sunday June 2, 1991, at his home. Born January 28, 1918 in Glennwod, he was the son of Leslie and Clara J. (Gray) Hinchman. He married Ester Ann Murphy April 9, 1938, she survives. He had lived at Glenwood most of his life. A graduate of Glenwood Public School and Rushville High School in 1936, he graduated from Ohio University in 1941. He was a 50 year member of the Orange F and AM. He was a member of the Main Street Christian Church, where he served as a deacon. He was currently serving as Elder as well as serving on the church board and as Treasurer and Trustee in the church. Hinchman was a veterniary practitioner at his own clinic in Glenwood until July 1974. After 43 years in private practice, he was appointed by then-Governor Otis Bowen as Indiana State Veterinarian in July 1974. He retired from that position in November of 1984. He was affiliated with many organizations, including: Executive Board of Indiana State Board of Health 1960, Rush County Board of Health, past prsident 1968-1974, past president of Indiana TB and RD Association 1965-1973, Royal Society of Health (England), Richmond Hospital Advisory Council, 1973, Scottish Rite (Indianapolis) Shrine, BPOE #1307, Omega Tau Sigma, and the American Veterinary Medical Association, American Veterninary Medical Association Council Public Health and Regulatory Medicine (Chairman), Past President of U.S. Animal Health Association, USAHA Committee on Pseudorabies (Chairman), Sagamore of the Wabasah 1979, Honorary Commissioner of Agriculture 1980, IVMA President's Award 1974, Kentucky Colonel 1973, Gamma Sigma Delta 1981, Distinguished Alumnus Award 1983 (Rushville Alumni Association). Surviving besides his wife are four daughters: Mrs. Thomas (Linda) Moster, Rushville, Mrs. Michael (Lou Ann) Pursley, Urbana, Illinois, Mrs. Richard (Donna) Houston, Rockford, ILL, Mrs. Scott (Elda) Gray, Marietta, GA and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son: Ronald L., December 2, 1972. Services are 1 pm Wednesday at Moster & Cox Mortuary in Rushville, with the Rev. Hank Anderson and the Rev. Deann Anderson officiating. Burial is at Rushville East Hill Cemetery. Vistiation is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to the Main Street Christian Church, the Ben Davis Church or to the Little Flatrock Christian Church. |
