About | Marian L. McGraw, 97, of Rushville, died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2004, at Miller's Merry Manor in Rushville. Born April 7, 1907, in Fayette County, she was the daughter of Earl and Katherine (Ryburn) Hinchman, both deceased. She married Robert B. McGraw July 7, 1942; he preceded her in death April 19, 1980. Mrs. McGraw was a 1925 graduate of Rushville High School. She was the last surviving member of the RHS Alumni Class of 1925. She graduated from Ball State Teachers College at the age of 59. She lived in Union Township from 1950 to 1996, at which time she moved to Rushville. In 1961, she became Rush County's first special education teacher. She also taught at Gas City, Dunlapsville, at Gings School and Rushville city schools for 33 years. She had attended Plum Creek Christian Church since 1921. She was a member of the Dr. Eliza A. Blaker Club; the Rush County, Indiana, and National Retired Teachers associations; Kappa Kappa Sigma; and Delta Kappa Gamma (an honorary ladies teachers society). She was among the founding members of the Fayette County Association of Retarded Citizens. She and her husband founded the McGraw Center (now Shares Inc.) in Rushville in 1975. She was named Area 9 Older Hoosier of the Year in 1992. Survivors include one son, Robert Benham McGraw of Rushville; and two nephews, Walter "Pete" Osting and Zeke Hinchman, both of Rushville. Besides her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Moster & Cox Mortuary in Rushville with Howard Bullard officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary. Burial will follow in East Hill Cemetery in Rushville. Memorial contributions may be made to Ben Davis Creek Christian Church, Rush County ARC, or the Joseph Hinchman Cemetery via the Rush County Community Foundation.
