About | Marion Charles Liggett, 86, of Rush County, passed away Saturday, January 21, 2012 in Rushville. Marion was born February 22, 1925 in Lawrenceburg, IN. He was the son of Carl and Augusta (Hillig) Liggett. He moved to Rush County in 1932, attended Webb School and graduated from Rushville High School in 1943. Marion is survived by his wife, Lois Fancher Liggett. They were married October 5, 1947. Their children, Ann & husband Doug Toothman of Milton, West VA, Sarah & husband Jerry Kennedy of Baton Rouge, LA and David & wife Emily Liggett of Atherton, CA. He was "Papaw" to 9 grandchildren, Nathan & wife Tiffany Toothman, Joshua & wife Valerie Toothman, Adam & wife Brooke Toothman, Ben & wife Julie Kennedy, Molly Kennedy, John, Lindy, Greg and Thomas Liggett. He was "great Papaw" to Christian Toothman and Samuel Kennedy. Two sisters, Lavada & husband Rex Tranbarger of Acton and Betty Jean & husband Jim Martin of Rush County, several nieces and nephew also survive. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother, Leona Liggett and siblings, Verona Pearsall, Ilene Less and Denver Liggett. Marion was a farmer in Jackson Township and was active in Rush County in numerous ways. He was a member of Hannegan Christian Church serving as Elder, Deacon, Trustee, Sunday School Teacher and Sunday School Superintendant. He had made many trips to Grundy Mountain Mission School. He served as Fire Chief of Jackson Twp., was a 4-H leader and member of the Rush County Historical Society. He was honored as outstanding Young Farmer in 1958 by the Rushville Jr. Chamber of Commerce and in 1978 received the Rushville School Alumni Service Award. He was a founding member or the Poineer Engineers Club. Marion was a Past Master of Phoenix Lodge #62 F&AM, a member of York Rite Commandary and Scotish Rite. Services will be held at 11 AM Monday, January 30 at Hannegan Christian Church with Warren Engel presiding. Burial will be in the Hannegan Cemetery. Friends are welcome to visit at Moster Mortuary, Rushville from 4 until 8 PM Sunday, January 29. There will be Masonic services Sunday evening at 7:30 at the mortuary.
