About | Mary C. Swarts passed away peacefully on November 10, 2010. She was born on December 2, 1920, the first of seven children to Dolph W. and Lenore L. Crane of Rush County Indiana. She graduated from Milroy High School in 1938 and Purdue University in 1942 with a degree in home economics. She was a member of the Purdue University concert choir and a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority, serving as chapter president her senior year. Also while at Purdue, she met and later married Norman R. Swarts who preceded her in death. She was a 4-H judge of clothing and foods at various county fairs during the 1950's and 1960's. She taught home economics and family living at Rushville Consolidated High School from 1967 to the mid 1980's. She was active in Chapter M of the P.E.O. sisterhood and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Mary Swarts was an active member St. Paul's United Methodist Church, in Rushville, Indiana for over fifty years. She is survived by two sisters, Ann Heilman of Orlando, Florida and Alice C. (Robert) Spuller of Hickory, North Carolina; a sister-in-law, Sarah B. Crane of Milroy, Indiana; two children, Rev. Christine S. (Joseph) Kenney of Austin, Texas and David C. Swarts of Fort Wayne, Indiana; four grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and thirty-seven nieces and nephews and their families, all of whom will miss Aunt Mary. Memorials in lieu of flowers are requested for your local chapter of the Salvation Army or the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) c/o St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Rushville, Indiana. A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Paul's United Methodist Church on Saturday, November 13, 2010 at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow at Rushville's East Hill Cemetery.
