About | Norma G. (Currens) McGinnis, 87 passed away September 7, 2015 in Panama City, Florida following a battle with cancer. Norma was a former, well respected art teacher with the Rush County Indiana School System. She was born on November 15, 1927 in Starke County, Indiana to Russell L. Currens and Goldie M. (Overmyer) Currens. Norma grew up in Burr Oak, Indiana and graduated in 1945 from Culver High School. She went on to Indiana University where she met Robert E. McGinnis. They were married on August 28, 1955 in Burr Oak, they recently celebrated their 60th Anniversary. Norma earned her Master’s degree in Art Education from Indiana University. She enjoyed teaching and later retired to Panama City Beach, Florida with her family. She continued her love of painting and was a member of the Panama City Art Association. Throughout her life, Norma won many awards for her artwork. She also enjoyed playing the piano, the beach, boating, and traveling. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Joseph L. Currens Sr. She is survived by her husband, Robert McGinnis and daughter, Jennifer McGinnis both of Panama City Beach, Florida; and another daughter Marsha (Charles) Mott of Montgomery, Alabama; 2 grandchildren, Jayme Mott and Michael Mott both of Montgomery, Alabama. She also leaves behind a sister-in-law, Judi Currens of Culver, Indiana, as well as 2 nieces, a nephew, and many cousins.
