About | Phillip J. Sorrell, 77, of Shelbyville, passed away Friday, Nov. 12, 2010. Born April 30, 1933 in Ogden, he was the son of William and Marie (Minnick) Sorrell, both deceased. He married Deloris Dale Feb. 27, 1958; she survives. Mr. Sorrell grew up in Rushville and later moved to Shelbyville. He was a tool and die maker for TRW Cinch for over 30 years and at Great States from 1987 to 1997, at which time he retired. He was a U.S. Navy veteran from 1952 to 1958 and served in the Korean War. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years and served as a Deacon and on several committees. He was a 1952 graduate of Rushville High School. He enjoyed his family and working in the yard and loved going to Las Vegas. Survivors in addition to his wife include sons, David (wife, Pam) Sorrell of Fort Wayne and Eric (wife, Elaine) Sorrell of Shelbyville; daughters, Becky Murnan and Carolyn Stoops, both of Shelbyville, and Stephanie Matzke of Indianapolis; sister, Lorene Moor of Rushville; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey A. Sorrell; two sisters, Mildred Smith and Hildred Dearinger; and a brother, Richard Sorrell. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church in Shelbyville with Pastor Mark Morningstar officiating. Burial will be in Shelbyville's Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Freeman Family Funeral Home and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel in Shelbyville and one hour prior to services Monday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Assocation or the American Cancer Society. |
