About | Dr. Robert D. Manning, 78, a longtime Rush County resident, passed away at 12:10 AM Sunday, July 17 in Rushville. He was born on January 1, 1933 in Rushville to the late Dallas and Helen Smelzer Manning. He married Geneva Alice Monroe on May 7, 1960 and she preceded him in death on August 14, 2003. Dr. Manning was a graduate of Rushville High School in 1951, he attended Purdue university and was a cum laude graduate of Ohio State College of Veterinary Medicine in 1957. He was a member of the Omega Tau Sigma veterinary fraternity and Phi Zeta honorary fraternity. He served in the US Air Force, attaining the rank of Captain and recieved the Air Force commendation medal for conducting an extensive tuberculin testing program while in Iceland. He established a veterinary practice in Brookville and farmed in Rush County for many years. He was also a Federal Inspector for the USDA. He leaves behind his sons, Stanley Manning and Gerald & wife Loretta Manning, both of Rushville and a grandson, Jordan Manning. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Joanne Logan. A time of visiting will be held from 9 until 11 AM on Wednesday, July 20 at Moster Mortuary, Rushville.
