About | Born Dec 25 1899 Robert was the athletic director at Rushville High School in Rushville, Indiana. He was the first Assistant Commissioner of the Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA), serving from 1945 until his death in 1961. The high school football field in Rushville is "Robert S. Hinshaw Field". In 1944, the Board of Control was given authority to employ an Assistant Commissioner. Robert S. Hinshaw, Director of Athletics at Rushville High School, was chosen in November, 1945, to take office December 10, 1945 to become the first Assistant Commissioner of Athletics for the IHSAA. The mental attitude award for the state championships in boys' track and field in Indiana is the "Robert S. Hinshaw Award. Nationally known authority on high school sports rules he supervised the assignment of referees for basketball tourney each year of his tenure, and served on many national rules committees of national organizations. He earned 4 letters at Earlham College, coached from 1923 to 1929 at Greenfield, then 1929 to 1943 at Rushville where he then became the school's athletic director from 1943 to 1945. |
