About Roberta G. Porter, 72, of Rush County, passed away at her home in Rush County on October 19, 2015.

She was born December 1, 1942 in Logansport to Robert C. "Bob" & Geneva (Berkshire) Hammontree.

Roberta was a 1961 graduate of Logansport High School & obtained her Bachelor's & Master's degrees in education from Ball State University. While at Ball State, Roberta was a member of the Delta Zeta sorority and was a proud member of the Ball State Marching Mademoiselles. She married Donald R. Porter on June 10, 1967, and he survives.

Roberta was a retired Elementary teacher. She taught in Selma and Cadiz before her sons were born and became a substitute teacher for Rush County Schools in the early 1980’s. For six years, Roberta was a devoted teacher in Rush County for developmentally challenged children, a position from which she may have achieved her greatest joy and pride as an educator. Eventually, Roberta taught full time for Rush County Schools, serving the youth of Mays, Arlington, Milroy, and Rushville. She retired in 2007 after years of selfless dedication to hundreds of students. She was a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa sorority in Rushville and the Rush County Retired Teacher's Association.

In addition to her husband, Donald, of Rush County, Roberta is survived by her sons, Donald G. Porter & wife Marian of Knoxville, MD, Robert C. "Chuck" Porter & wife Susanna of Unadilla, NE and Bradley S. Porter of Boulder, CO; sisters, Ednamae Bowman of Bellingham, WA, Karen Skelton & husband Dave of Ft. Wayne, Sandy Spencer & husband Roger of Logansport and Lynda Warner & husband Bill of Reelsville, IN; grandchildren, Riley & Emma Porter and Matthew, Jennifer & Kimberly Porter. Many cherished nieces, nephews, colleagues, and students also survice.

Roberta was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Robert C. "Chuck" Hammontree, mother-in-law, Martha Barton, father-in-law, Randall Barton, brother-in-law, Mel Barton, and brother-in-law Dick Bowman.

Services will be held at 10 AM Monday, October 26, 2015 at Moster Mortuary, Rushville with Don, Chuck & Brad Porter presiding over services. Friends are welcome to visit at the mortuary from 2-6 PM Sunday, October 25.

Burial will be in the Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown.
