About | Ruth Ann Foster, 84, of Rushville passed away Sunday evening, January 16, 2011 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Ruth Ann Miller was born on August 29, 1926 in Knightstown, IN to the late Richard B. & Marguerite Hamner Miller. She spent only a few years in Knightstown. She grew up in Rushville and graduated from Rushville High School in 1944. She married James S. Foster on August 18, 1951 and he preceded her in death on April 3, 2007. She obtained a bachelor's degree in education from Purdue University in 1948 and went on to teach in Salem, Columbus and Martinsville. She taught while her husband, Jim, finished law school. After his graduation they returned to Rushville where he practiced law and they raised their family. Ruth Ann was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church where she had many friends. She taught Sunday school there for many years and was active in the United Methodist Women both locally and at the district level. While at Purdue, Ruth Ann was in the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and a member of the "Buzzin' Dozen". Ruth Ann sold real estate for Lindsay Real Estate for 10 years. She was very active in her community. Some activites included Cub Scout Master, Meals on Wheels, Rush County Humane Society and Historical Society, Tri Kappa, Monday Circle book club, various bridge clubs and the Rushville Library board. In 1983 she played Mrs. Savage in The Curious Savage while involved with the Rush County Players. She was voted women of the year by the Rushville BPW in 1974. Ruth Ann is survived by her sons, James M. & wife Holly Foster of Bloomington, IN and William S. & wife Marty (Schwartz) Foster of Greenfield, IN, a daughter, Ann M. Foster & husband Steve of Bloomington, IN, grandchildren, Michael Foster, Lane Hughes, Alicia Foster and Elizabeth Foster, brother-in-law, Edwin Hawes of Columbus, IN and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Miller of Cincinnati and sisters, June Mohr of Richmond, VA and Mary Lou Hawes of Columbus. Pastor Jan Dimick will preside. There will be a time of fellowship in the church basement after services. Entombment will be at a later time at the convenience of the family.
