About | The Rushville Republican Fri Aug 08, 2014 Theodotia Hartman, 63, from Rushville went home to be our Lord and Saviour on Aug. 3, 2014 in Hanover, Germany. She was born in Rushville on Oct. 9, 1950 to the late Cecil and Theodotia Hartman. She is survived by her brother Alan Hartman of Macon, Georgia and sister Bartha Stehelin of St. Albert, AB Canada. Theodotia graduated from Rushville High School Class of 1968, BME from Indiana University in music and a Masters from Butler University in music. She taught in Indianapolis for many years before moving to San Francisco where she pursued her passion for opera where she sang at the San Francisco Opera House. In 1987, she moved to Germany where she was in high demand in numerous opera houses throughout Germany as well as concerts in Germany, Switzerland and Japan. Theodotia was a finalist in Luciano Pavarotti's World Wide Soprano Competition. In recent years, she began sharing her talent by teaching voice, piano and guitar while still performing. She had a great career singing for and with opera greats and was featured in a documentary entitled "In The Shadow of the Stars". Services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 9 at 2 p.m. in the Bortfeld Cemetery chapel with internment to follow. We are devastated at her sudden passing but know that she is with the Lord our Savior and she has come home to be with him.
