About | Vicki Lynn (VanBibber) Smith, 63, of Rush County, died unexpectedly on Oct. 11, 2014 in Ashville, North Carolina, surrounded by the beauty of the Smokey Mountains and with her loving husband by her side. Born March 13, 1951 in Rushville, she was the daughter of Robert VanBibber and Betty (Mosburg) Brown, both deceased. She married Paul Smith Feb. 14, 2012; he survives. Vicki lived in Rushville most of her life, though she did reside in Wisconsin from 1984 to 1990. She was a Rushville Consolidated High School Class of 1969 graduate. She worked in the insurance industry for many years with Meridian Insurance and State Auto Insurance, retiring in 2011. Vicki’s number one passion was her family. She loved her children greatly and could never get enough of her grandchildren. She could also dole out tough love when that was required. She also enjoyed shopping, especially with family, playing the slots, flower gardening, playing the slots, bird watching, playing the slots and travelling with Paul, which is what she was doing at the time of her death. Her last words spoken were “I love you. Thanks for a great day.” Survivors in addition to her husband include her sister, Brenda Becht of Rushville; son, Brian (Jenny) Gipson of Rushville; daughters, Tammy Sheets and Heather (Brian) Sheehan of Rushville; step-sons, Craig Smith of Rushville and Bryan (Amanda) Smith of Greenfield; seven grandchildren, Tyler Gipson, Tanner Gipson, Kelsey Raider, Karson Gipson, Alexis Sheets, Riley and Joseph Sheehan; seven step-grandchildren, Stevie and husband Donald Davidson, Shelby Kazan, Austin, Ashton, Sawyer, Brianna and Jensen Smith; and one great-step grandchild, Avery Davidson. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Norman Duff, who died Jan. 24, 2009, she married Norman on June 30, 1984. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Moster Mortuary in Rushville with the Rev. Ray Sweet officiating. Burial will follow in Rushville's East Hill Cemetery and will include a graveside service.
