About | Wendell L. Witsman, 87, of Rushville passed away at the Flatrock River Lodge in Rushville, Sunday, March 6, 2016. Wendell was born March 27, 1928 in Kingman, IN to the late Hugh and Bessie (Huffman) Witsman. Wendell attended Kingman High School, where he graduated and went on to get his B.A. in health and physical fitness at the now Indianapolis University in 1950. Then his country called for his service and he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force after graduation, where he would serve and be honorably discharged in 1954. He married Eloise Gooding February 27, 1955. After his career in the USAF, Wendell continued where he left off and went into teaching. Wendell taught at over 14 schools over his career in Indiana finishing with Rushville Consolidated Schools. He received his Masters Degree in Education from Indiana State Teachers College in 1956. Wendell enjoyed many hobbies: bowling, fishing, modern camping, golf and traveling, just to name a few. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Eloise (Gooding) Witsman, children Maria Batchik of Richmond,IN, Dale (Heather) Witsman of Nashville, IN and Cindy Witsman of Dunreith, IN. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and his sister Katha Majors. In addition to his parents, Wendell was preceded in death by five brothers and a sister. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at 6 pm at St. Mary Church in Rushville, IN. Visitation will be held from 4-6 Wednesday at the church.
