About | William Patrick (Bill) Todd, age 62 of Rushville, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012 at his home after an eleven month battle with pancreatic cancer. Bill was born July 4, 1950 at the old city hospital to George Patrick and Mary Martha (Cox) Todd, the second of their eleven children. On May 12, 1973 he married Diana Jo Beard at St. Mary Catholic Church and she survives. Bill was a life-long Rushville resident and proud county employee. He graduated from Rushville High in 1968 and from the Indiana College of Mortuary Science in 1970. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served in Japan during the Viet Nam War. While there, he was a biochemistry technician and obtained the rank of Sergeant. Following his discharge, he was hired as a Rush County Deputy Sheriff in 1975 and graduated from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. He retired from the Rush County Sheriff’s Department as a Detective in 1995. Thereafter, Bill served Rush County as the Executive Director of the Rush County Area Planning Commission from 1998 to 2012. His memberships included Rotary International, Paul Harris Fellow; FOP past president, Hoosier Model T Club; Noken T’s Assoc.; Model T Ford Club of America; American Legion; Knights of Columbus 769, 4th Degree; past member of the Elks Lodge; St. Mary’s Catholic Church, St. Mary’s Catholic School Foundation, Rush County Community Foundation, Rush County GOP, former City Councilman, and numerous other civic and community activities. Bill was a good public speaker and was known to always have a new joke to tell. He was honored to speak of his struggle with cancer at recent Relay for Life and Rush Memorial Hospital Foundation fundraisers. In addition to his wife Diana, Bill is survived by a large loving family; mother, Martha Todd of Rushville, son, William Matthew of Rushville, one daughter Angela Sue (Jon) Jacobus of Ohio; three brothers, John Todd of Rushville, David (Ellen) Todd of Carmel; James (Susan) Todd of Rushville; six sisters, Ann (Kim) Curtis; Cathy (Jay) Coffman; Peggy (Jim) Mull; Rosie (Doug) Osborne; Susie (Marc) Fooksman of Ohio; and Janie (Tim) Starkey all of Rushville. His extended family Mike (Mary Ann) Beard, Debbie Cole, Sally (Joe) Niedenthal all of Rushville and Joseph Beard Jr. of KY also survive. Four grandchildren; Alexis, Dinah, George & Jon were Bill’s joy along with his many, many hobbies and interests that included gardening, genealogy & Model T restorations. He was preceded in death by an infant Daughter Jennifer Jo Todd, his Father, Pat Todd, Mother and Father -in-Law Joe and Mary Beard, and one Brother, Rick Todd and sister-in-law Connie Todd. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Saturday Nov. 17th at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Jeremy Gries as celebrant. Burial will follow at Rushville’s Calvary Cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted at 9:30 AM at Todd Funeral Centre & Crematory by the Rush County Honor Guard. All are welcome to recite the rosary on Friday Nov. 16th at 1:45 PM and calling will conclude at 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Rush County Community Foundation “George Pat Todd Fund”; the Rush County Boys and Girls Club or the St. Mary’s Catholic Church or School Foundation.
