About | William Robert "Bob" McMillin, 90, a lifelong Rush County resident, passed away at his home in Rushville on Sunday, February 26, 2012. He was born on April 29, 1921, to Harry and Nelle (Kennedy) McMillin and was a grandson and great grandson of the Kennedy wooden bridge builders. He married Wilma White on March 1, 1947, and she survives. Bob graduated from Rushville High School in 1939 and Indianapolis Business School. He was a WW2 U.S. Army veteran. He operated the family farms and meat businesses, including the meat market of the Charlie Brown Grocery in Rushville, farming leased and owned farms in Union Township, and serving as the chief operating officer of McMillin Packing Company in Gings. He was in the meat business for more than 50 years and after retiring worked for Lotus Warehouse and Columbe families Rush County Stone. Bob was active in the Indiana Meat Packers and Processors Association, American Meat Processors Association, and the Rush County Heritage. A life-time member of Plum Creek Christian Church, he was a member of the Blue Lodge Masonic Order, Order of the Easter Star, and had been a member of the American Legion, and Junior Chamber of Commerce. In addition to his wife Wilma, of Rushville, Bob is survived by his daughter, Janet Godby and her husband Henry of Shelbyville, a son Kenneth McMillin and his wife Debra of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, a son David McMillin and his wife Jennifer of Joplin, Missouri, granddaughters Suzanne Ingalsbe and husband Nate of Vienna, Virginia, Jennifer Reid and husband Ron of Hope, Christine and Rebecca McMillin of Joplin, Missouri, a great grandson Ronald Reid III of Hope and brother, Thomas McMillin and wife Cecilia of Fairborn, OH. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by, a daughter, Carol Ann, brother, Richard McMillin, and sisters, Mildred Benson and Margery Suttle and his parents. Services will be held at 10AM Thursday, March 1, 2012 at Moster Mortuary, Rushville with Pastor Ray Sweet III presiding. Friends are welcome to visit at the mortuary from 4 until 8 PM Wednesday. Burial will be in Rushville's East Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Accessibility Project Fund at Plum Creek Christian Church or the Rush County Heritage Trust. |
