About | HAWARDEN, IOWA~ Jeanette McPherson, 88, of Hawarden, passed away on Friday, January 30, 2015 at her residence in Hawarden. Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Associated Church in Hawarden with Rev. Dan Lozer officiating. Burial will follow in the Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon Monday, with the family present beginning at 5:30 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden. Jeanette Elizabeth Trometer McPherson was born on May 19, 1926 to Andrew and Leota (Bogner) Trometer in rural Union County, West Akron, SD. She attended country grade school and graduated from Akron High School in 1944. She worked as a bookkeeper until her marriage. She married James A. McPherson on November 30, 1949. They made their home in Hawarden, Ia; constructing their home from the basement up. She was a member of the Associated Church. Jeanette was an avid quilter and enjoyed jig saw puzzles and crossword puzzles. She died peacefully at home at the age of 88 years. Survivors include three daughters and their husbands, Judy and Bill Scott of Hawarden, Patricia and Scott Smetter of Lincoln, NE; and Pamela and Randy Smith of Sioux Falls, SD; and a son, Jerald McPherson of Beresford, SD. Grandchildren: Sheri (Jeff) Ahern of Grimes, IA, Matthew (Jessie) Scott of Yankton, SD, Mark (Dawn) Scott of Hawarden, IA, Michelle (Bryan) VanWyhe of Ireton, IA, Julie Smith of Minneapolis, MN, Brandon Smetter of Lincoln, NE, and Levi Smetter of Lincoln, NE; 3 great granddaughters, Emma VanWyhe, Meagan Scott, Claire Scott; and 4 great grandsons, Aiden Ahern, Jackson Ahern, Carter VanWyhe, and Sean Scott; one brother in law, Fred (Sharon) McPherson; sisters in law, Vivian McPherson, Darlene McPherson, Darlene McPherson and Barb McPherson; and many nieces and nephews. Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents; her husband James (4-20-04); brothers, Merlin Trometer and Melvin Trometer; sisters, Blanche Trometer, Alice and husband Ken Harvey, Iona and husband Bill Clarey, Neva and husband Jim Hawks and Marilyn and husband Herman Titus; mother and father in law, Jessie and William McPherson; brother and sisters in law, Gen and Elmer McMillan, Donald McPherson, Milo McPherson, Dorothy and Bill Harvey, Ray McPherson, Alma and Pierce DeJong and Bruce McPherson; and infant grandsons, Craig Scott and Christopher Scott. Great-grandson Carter told his mother, “We’ve had Grandma Jeannie for a long time, it’s time to give her back to Grandpa Jim.” |
