Jesse Mac Starling Sr, 68, of Burlington died Friday, March 20, 2015 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Born April 17, 1946, in Crossett, Ark., he was the son of Fred Douglas and Geneva Gladys Turner Starling Sr. Mr. Starling worked 18 years as a financial analyst at IBM in Minneapolis. He retired and returned to Burlington. He graduated from Burlington High School in 1964 where he was an outstanding saxophone player. , He served in the Army during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed serving the Lord at Faith Temple Church of God in Christ. He was known for his positive attitude and kindness to others. Survivors include his step-mother, Stella Strling of Crossett; two brother, Fred Starling Jr of Burlington and Bernard Hunter of Buffalom N.Y; one sister, Bertha Brown of Burlington; two daughters Rhonda Johnson of Rockford, Ill and Sherlene Ali of St. Louis; one son Jesse Sterling Jr of Minneapolis; 12 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister. The funeral for Mr. Starling will be at noon Thursday at Union Baptist Church in Burlington, with Elder Fred Starling officiating and family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to noon before the service. Later services and burial will be at noon April 2 in Crosett. A memorial has been established for Faith Temple Church of God in Christ. Prugh Funeral Service in Burlington is in charge of arrangements. |
