About | Dr. Stacy Lynn Thompson, born Dec 16th, 1969 in Atlantic, IA was killed in a car accident with her husband, Paul Hofmeyer on the evening of April 11th, in eastern Iowa near their home in Iowa City, IA. Stacy graduated valedictorian from Exira High School, and earned her undergraduate degree and medical degree in ophthalmology, graduating with high honors, from the University of Iowa in Iowa City, IA. Stacy was gifted and talented in music, playing the piano and alto saxophone throughout her life. She derived great joy from being a member of the Iowa Hawkeye marching band and developed a passion for Hawkeye football and the University of Iowa. Stacy was an eye surgeon with her partners at Eye Physicians and Surgeons in Iowa City for 14 years. She chose her profession to improve peoples' vision based on the fact that she had poor eye sight from a very young age and didn't want others to have to experience it. This is an example of the thoughtful, considerate, selfless nature Stacy had. Active community involvement and volunteerism: IPA Committee Member, PSC Member for Mercy Hospital, PHO Committee Member for Mercy Hospital, PHO Executive Committee, Eastern Iowa Community Health Plan Management Committee, Iowa City Ambulatory Surgical Center Clinical Operations Committee, Rotary Member since 2005, Rotary Music Committee, Rotary Board Member 2010-2012, Salvation Army volunteer, Preucil School of Music Guild 2010-2013. She was a faithful servant to her church and various other charitable organizations for which she lent her loving and dedicated support. She had a wonderful spirit and will be sorely missed by her family and friends. Stacy is survived by so many precious cousins, aunts, uncles, friends, and her immediate family; her parents, Michael Herman and Judy Claire (LaMar) Thompson of Exira, IA, her brother, Zachary (Austin, TX), his wife Kelli, their two daughters, Caroline and Eliza; Paul's children,Mathew and Katie Hofmeyer (Pocahontas); and her two very loving kitty cats. She was the kindest spirit we have ever known, and blessed everyone who knew her in every one of her 44 years of life. Services include a 3PM service at Good News Bible Church, 845 Pepperwood Lane, Iowa City on Tuesday April 15th, and a 3PM visitation at Exira Fellowship Church, Washington St, Exira IA on Wednesday, April 16th.
