About | Fred Alan Behner age 68, passed away September 24, 2014 at Jefferson County Health Center. Frederick "Fred" Alan Behner was born January 12, 1946 to Weston Frederick and Mary: Gladys"(Reed)Behner in Fairfield, IA. Fred married Nancy Aicher July 5, 1997 at the First United Methodist Church, Fairfield, IA. He graduated from Fairfield High School with the Class of 1964. Fred attended S.E. Community College in Keokuk from 1965-1966, one semester at Kirksville College in MO Year 1967-1968. In 1968-1970 he attended a Mortuary school of Science in Milwaukee, WI. Fred served in the National Guard from 1968-1974. In 1976 he became a licensed funeral director and started working with his dad, Weston. Fred served the community as a funeral director for 36 years before he retired November 2012. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Fairfield. Some of the organizations Fred was involved in through out his life were Masonic Lodge AF&AM 15, B.P.O.E(Elks)#1192, KAABA Shrine Club of Davenport, Eagles Lodge #1927, Fairfield Kiwanis, Lion's Club, Rotary, Founding member of Greater Jefferson County Foundation, served on the Civil Service Commission, Wall of Honor Board, Fairfield Trojan Booster Club, Iowa Funeral Director Assoc., Illinois FDA, Missouri FDA, and CANA. He served on various committees with the Iowa Funeral Director Association. While in the Lions, Fred received the Warren Coleman award in 2012 and Lion of the Year for 2013-2014. Fred did many things for the community and never wanted any recognition for it. He had a heart of gold and was a friend to everyone. He was an avid Hawkeye and Trojan sports fan. Fred and Jim Evans provided popsicles after practice for the fall sports. For many years he coached and was a sponsor for baseball and softball. Fred loved his dogs. He was a proud new owner of 2 German Shepard puppies "Duke & Daisy" Fred is survived by his wife, Nancy of Fairfield; 2 daughters, Michelle(Michael)Anderson of Mt. Pleasant, IA and Jodi(Jason)Wenthe of Camel, IN; 5 grandchildren, Alyvia, Chole and Malia Anderson of Mt. Pleasant and Jacob and Jaden Wenthe of Carmel, IN; and many cousins. Funeral services will be 10:30 am Monday, September 29, 2014 at First United Methodist Church, Fairfield, IA with Pastor Mike Metz and Pastor Todd Holman officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be 2-7 pm Sunday, September 28, 2014 at Behner Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church or Fairfield Trojan Athletic Booster Club. |
