Graduation Year Class of 1964
Date of Birth Jan 24, 1946
Date of Passing Oct 09, 2015
About NEW OXFORD Karen Davis Engle passed away October 9, 2015 at Cross Keys Village, New Oxford. Born on January 24, 1946, in Princeton, N.J., she was the first of five children born to Grier Davis and Fay Findlay Davis. Karen married the love of her life, Richard K. Engle on June 20, 1980, in Orange, Va. She was the mother of Allison Weakley, Pittsboro N.C., Brian Schwarz, Winchester, Va, Zachary Engle, Hanover, and Gregory Jordan (and wife, Leslie), Cincinnati Ohio. She treasured her three grandchildren, Rhiannon Weakley, Vanner Weakley and Charlie Jordan.

Karen graduated from Fairfield High School, Fairfield, Iowa in 1964 and attended Parsons College, also in Fairfield, Iowa. Her adventuresome spirit took her East where she worked in Washington D.C., and later majored in accounting at Lord Fairfax Community College in Middletown, Va. She then worked for Stambaugh Ness PC in Hanover as an accounting specialist for over 20 years, retiring in 2008. Even in retirement she continued to serve several clients during tax season and worked part-time for William Therit, Jr. Insurance. In addition to her family, her greatest loves were travel and genealogical research. Travels took her to Scotland, Ireland, and on several river cruises throughout Europe. Her many trips to Salt Lake City documented generations of her family's history. Karen was treasurer of the Gettysburg Region of the Antique Auto Club of America for over 20 years, as well as a member and treasurer of the Col. Richard McCalister Chapter of the DAR and member of the Daughters of the Confederacy. The connections she made with students as an ESL tutor for the Hanover Literacy Council brought her great joy.

Sharing her final days were her husband and children, as well as sisters, Donna Rupp, Iowa City, Iowa, Marilyn Switzer, Holton, Kan.; and brothers, Michael Davis, Longmont, Colo., and John Davis, Placitas, N.M. She was dearly loved by in-laws, Daniel and Mary Engle, Vicki Davis, Ken Switzer; and by her 15 nieces and nephews.

A celebration of her rich life will be held on Saturday, November 7 from 1:30 to 4 p.m. at La Cucina Italian Restaurant on Baltimore Pike in Hanover.
