Gary was born on November 28, 1956 in Des Moines, IA. His parents were the late Robert E. and Dana A. (Brown) Nahkunst. He grew up on their farm near Hamburg, IA and graduated from Hamburg High School in 1975. He then attended Tarkio College at Tarkio, MO. He was united in marriage to Judi Jones at the Methodist Church in Hamburg, IA. Gary held various jobs over the years including working construction, driving a coast-to-coast truck, and farming. He especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing drums in his band: Plain Label, and riding Harley Davidson motorcycles. He loved spending time at the Nahkunst farm with his family. He is survived by his sister Kathy Bell and husband Joe of Indianola, IA, brother Jim Nahkunst and wife Carla of Hamburg, IA; son Marcus Ferry of Hamburg, IA; three nephews and one niece: Colin Nahkunst, Bradley Nahkunst, Clayton Bell and Alisha Seeley and husband Matt and their children: Lane, Vada and Nash; former spouse Judi Nahkunst of Hamburg, IA; other family and friends. Gary was preceded in death by his parents. A Celebration of Life Party will be held on Sunday, August 25, 2019 at Washatee Lodge (in Waubonsie State Park) from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. A private family graveside service will be in the Brown Cemetery, rural Hamburg, IA.
