About | Larry L. VanLaningham (1949 - 2017) Obituary INDEPENDENCE – Larry L. VanLaningham, 68 years old, of Independence, died on Monday, May 29, 2017, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence. He was born in Independence on February 6, 1949, the son of Wilbert Martin and Darlene M. (Manross) VanLaningham. He graduated from high school in Independence. On August 26, 1967, he and the former Vicki Lynn Williams were married at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence. Mr. VanLaningham was an assembly line worker for 34 years at John Deere and Co. in Waterloo. He retired in 2007. He was a member of the U.A.W. Local 838 and was formerly a member of the Independence Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed time spent at their cabin in Guttenberg, hunting and fishing, and going to the casinos. Mr. VanLaningham is survived by his wife of 49 years, Vicki; one son, Mike (Sue) VanLaningham of Independence; one daughter Stephanie (Chris Hepker) Lawson of Quasqueton; three grandchildren: Joshua Tudor, Amanda Buhrow, and Deion Studebaker; two brothers: Dennis (Nita) VanLaningham of Independence and Scott (Ronalda) VanLaningham of Washburn; and three sisters: Karen Clendenen of Oelwein, Sandra Olsen of Elkhorn, Wis., and Pam Decker of Independence. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers-in-law. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 2, at the White Funeral Home in Independence with Rev.
