About Marilyn E. (Derby) Bengston (1949 - 2012)
INDEPENDENCE – Marilyn E. Bengston, 62 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died at her home on Saturday, February 18, 2012. She was born on November 30, 1949, in Urbana, Iowa, the daughter of Everett Lorraine and Lucy Belle (Bascom) Derby. She graduated from high school in Independence, Iowa. On February 14, 1981, she and Dennis Dean Bengston were married in Littleton, Iowa. He preceded her in death in 2002. Mrs. Bengston was the manager at the Allerton Axtel Restaurant in Independence. She was a former Cub Scout Den Mother and coached and played softball. She enjoyed fishing although it may have been an excuse to be in the sun and work on her tan. And she also enjoyed time with her friends and family having a good time.
Mrs. Bengston is survived by 1 daughter, Brenda Peyman of Erie, PA, 1 son, Donald (Kelley) Doyle of Independence, IA, 1 step daughter, Candace (William) Rieken of Cedar Rapids, IA, 7 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her special friend, Lawrence "Chief" Neuman of Independence, IA, 3 sisters, Judy (Dwayne) Morgan, Eileen Jones, and Teresa (Troy) Breshears, all of Antlers, OK, and 4 brothers, Chuck Derby of Ft. Smith, AR, and Bill (Twyla) Derby, Robert (Glenda) Derby, and Doug Derby, all of Antlers, OK.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorial Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, February 21, 2012, at the White Funeral Home in Independence, Iowa, with Pastor Ginny Bass officiating. Friends may call for visitation after 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 21st, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence. On line condolences may be left at www.White-MtHope.com.
