About | Age-72 Janet passed suddenly from a heart attack while she was in Sun City, Arizona-Banner Boswell Medical Center. Since Janet's retirement from teaching, she and husband Kevin split time between home in Washington, Iowa and Phoenix, Arizona. Their two children Tony and Michelle lived in Phoenix and Scottsdale, respectively. Janet was born September 29, 1952 in Williamsburg, Iowa, one of eleven Lower kids-parents Joseph and Mary/Parnell-Holbrook area. After high school, Janet attended UNI in Cedar Falls, Iowa and graduated with a BA in Education. She taught Special Education for several years in the Fairfield, Mid-Prairie and Washington school districts, retiring in 2008. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Washington-where she married Kevin in May, 1981. She served on community boards-Planned Parenthood and Women of Washington YMCA Endowment. She was an advocate for the disabled and a defender of women's rights. Janet enjoyed her flower gardens, walking and playing cards with friends and spending time with her large and close family-especially grandkids who called her "Wonderful Grandma". As we near 55 years out from our HS graduation, we commend Janet for her commitment to education and advocacy for those who couldn't do it for themselves. We miss you teach. |
