Connie was born Sept. 10, 1951, in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of Robert and Darlene (Bleil) Davis. Connie attended Woodbury Central High School in Moville, Iowa, and graduated in 1969. She attended Springfield College in Springfield, S.D., where she received her associate's degree in business. Connie worked for Boeing in Rapid City, S.D., and later moved to Sturgis, S.D., where she had worked for the Veteran's Hospital. While living in South Dakota, Connie met her first husband, Darrell Steffes, and to this union, twin daughters Bekki and Brandi were born. Shortly after the birth of her daughters, she moved back to Iowa before moving to Glendive to be near her sister Cathy, where she has resided since.
On Nov. 29, 1980, Connie married the love of her life, Les Balcer. To this union, he became the father of her twin daughters. On May 14, 1982, a son, Bobby, was born.
Connie was employed with the State of Montana at Job Service as an Employment Specialist for 29 years until she retired in January of 2009.
Connie's pride and joy was her family. She was affectionately known as "Nana" by all of her grandchildren. Connie always enjoyed life to the fullest, and she always kept her family on their toes with her amazing humor. She enjoyed traveling the last three years, creating family memories, and that was highlighted by the cruise to the Caribbean two years ago with her husband and children. Connie enjoyed golfing, dancing and listening to '50s and '60s music.
Connie had successfully beaten breast cancer for 10 years, and battled lung cancer the last three years, with her family and friends by her side. Connie was an inspiration to everyone who knew her, especially her friends who were going through the same struggles she was. Connie always put others before herself. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Connie was preceded in death by her cousin, Doyle Bleil; and stepfather-in-law Don Brant.
She is survived by her loving husband, Les Balcer of Glendive; daughters, Bekki (Mark) Franks of Glendive and Brandi (Mike) Ollerman of Livingston; son, Bobby (Kylah) Balcer of Katy, Texas; her parents, Robert and Darlene Davis of Moville, Iowa; brothers, Rob (Julie) Davis, and Craig (Debbie) Davis, all of Moville; sister, Cathy (Terry) Lobdell of Glendive; seven grandchildren, Morgan, Axton, Haiden, Lauryn, Kainen, Russell and Knox; father-in-law, Leo Balcer; mother-in-law, Mona Brant; numerous nieces and nephews; numerous in-laws; and her faithful dog Muggins.
