About | Mark Reade Obituary Mark A. Reade Mark A. Reade, 67, Hays, died Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at Rush County Memorial Hospital in LaCrosse. He was born August 16, 1956 in Goodland, the son of Radean C. “Ray” and Phyllis (Amack) Reade. In 1974, he graduated from Buhler High School and he later earned an Associate’s Degree from Hutchinson Junior College and a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing from Fort Hays State University. For over 30 years, he was an account executive for Berlin Wheeler. On November 5, 2021, he was united in marriage to Sonya R. (Herrman) Garrett in Hays. Mark enjoyed music, a wide variety of sports, and was an avid Dallas Cowboys, Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals, and University of Kansas fan. He was an outstanding softball player and will be posthumously inducted into the USSSA Softball Hall of Fame in February of 2024. In addition to softball, Mark loved to play golf and scored his first ever hole-in-one at Carey Park Golf Course in Hutchinson. He possessed a deep love for his wife Sonya, his family, and his friends. Survivors include his wife Sonya, of the home in Hays, his father Ray Reade of Hutchinson, a son Troy Reade and wife Kassie and their son Finley Reade of Gladstone, MO, a daughter Baylee Reade of San Antonio, TX, a brother Ron Reade and wife Karen of Hutchinson, step-daughters, Kendahl Goetzmann and husband Brett of Manhattan, KS and Abby Garrett and fiancé Zane Nelson of Lincoln, NE, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother Phyllis Reade on April 12, 2019. A celebration of Mark’s life will take place at 9:30 am on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine Street. Burial will follow at St. Michael Cemetery in LaCrosse, Kansas. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 on Friday and from 8:30 am until service time on Saturday, all at the funeral home. An additional celebration of Mark’s life will take place at 10:30 am on Monday, November 13, 2023 at New Covenant Presbyterian Church, 700 E. 25th Street, in Hutchinson, Kansas.
