Carlo Cerretti Obituary (1943 - 1991)

Graduation Year Class of 1961
Date of Birth Jan 20, 1943
Date of Passing Feb 28, 1991
About Carlo was our foreign exchange student our senior year. Following is a letter he wrote for our 25-year reunion book:

A long time has passed since I laast saw you and I remember most of you with affection and home-sickness. I didn’t have many opportunities to practice my English language since 1961, so forgive my bad shape in writing this letter

I would have been with you July 19, 1986, but I have too many working and family problems. I married Maria Scardini the second of May, 1971, and we have three sons. Mario is 13 years old, Umberto 11, and Giuseppe, 7 years old. I teach math in evening courses to people that need the middle school diploma. During the day my main job is farming. I have five tractors, one harvest machine and many other implements used in agriculture. i live in a farmhouse two miles south of Viterbo and spend most of my time growing olives, hazelnuts and vineyards.

I also produce around ten thousand gallons of wine per year and sell it in my farm. Actually I am very busy with the harvest season, which in Italy goes on until the end of July. I often talk with my wife and sons of the year I spent at Concordia and I still remember most of you, the school activities and the American way of living. That year was a marvelous experience for me and wish the same might happen to our sons. It was there, working on the hay fields, that I realized my tendency for farming and it was there that I understood the importance of democracy, freedom and friendship among all people.

I miss you all a lot and wish to have in the future some other opportunity to be together. By the way, if it happens that someone of you sometime will come to Italy (great idea!), my address is Carlo Cerretti, Stroda Buon Respiro 3, 01100 Viterbo, Italy. I have a lot of good wine to drink in my cellar.

THIS IS A MESSAGE RECEIVED FROM CARLO’S SON, MARIO, FOR OUR 50-YEAR REUNION BOOK.

My father was born in Viterbo on January 20, 1943, and married to my mother Maria May 2, 1971. He graduated with a degree in statistics and demography the December 6, 1971, at the University of Rome. He worked as a teacher of mathematics and science in junior high school from 1972 to 1991. Died due to a pancreatitis hemorrhagic the February 28, 1991.
