| About | I am sure that most who attended Grade School in Logan during the mid-50's will remember Mrs. Winters who taught 6th grade for many years. This obituary is from the Lawrence Journal World. Alice Swaggerty Winters 1911 - 2005 Services for Alice Swaggerty Winters, 93, Topeka, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home in Lawrence. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Perry. Mrs. Winters died Saturday, July 2, 2005, at McCrite Plaza Care Center in Topeka. She was born Nov. 18, 1911, in Perry, the daughter of Jess L. and Sylvan Fogel Swaggerty. She graduated from Perry High School in 1930. She received her Bachelor of Science, Master of Science and a specialist degree in education, all from Kansas University. Mrs. Winters taught for more than 40 years in the De Soto and Lawrence school systems. She tutored for several years after she retired in 1976. She married L. Winters in 1936 in Topeka. He died earlier. Survivors include a son, Mark L. Winters, Topeka; and a sister, Betty Frye, Montrose, Colo. |
