Steve used to joke that he joined the Marine Corps after graduation because he was sick and tired of being told what to do! He proudly served in Vietnam and later as Honor Guard for Funerals. After being discharged, he bootstrapped his way from Draftsman to Project Manager, working in Topeka for Santa Fe Railroad, as a engineering job shopper around the country for Bechtel Corp. and Martin Marietta in Denver. He settled in Denver in 1981 and remained for 35 years. Steve coached youth in baseball, which he loved. In 1999, he was diagnosed with MS. He retired and calmly managed his illness. He lost his sister Kathy 8 months before he died. He was survived by his wife of 25 years, Sharon (who passed in 2018); His sister Patty (Lee) McQueen; 6 children; 6 grandchildren; 1 niece & 1 nephew; as well as many extended family. |
