Mary Elizabeth Hornung, 49, died Nov. 16, 2000, at her home in Spearville. She was born Oct. 15, 1951, at Kinsley, the daughter of Richard and Bonnie Joan Bell Klenke. She was a graduate of Spearville High School, and received a bachelor’s degree from Friends University, Wichita. A lifetime Spearville resident, she worked at Natural Resource Conservation Services, Dodge City, as an administrative assistant for nine years. She belonged to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and St. John’s Parish Council, both at Spearville, and was past president of the Ford County American Cancer Society Board. On May 15, 1971, she married Larry J. Hornung at Spearville. He survives. Other survivors include: three sons, Kyle and Bill, both of Spearville; and Brad, Pittsburg; her father, Spearville; five brothers, Gary, John and Mike, all of Kinsley, Tom, Dodge City, and Andy, Chanute; three sisters, Julie Hines, Spearville, Teresa Issinghoff, Wright, and Dena Israel, Dodge City; and a grandchild. Funeral was at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, at the church, with Father Robert Schremmer presiding. Burial was in the church cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the Mary Hornung Memorial Fund or to the American Cancer Society, both in care of Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City.
